Johnson’s nursing journey lands her at 太阳城 as new nursing instructor
After joining the Southeastern Community College nursing instructional staff in January this year, Haley Johnson hopes to witness more “lightbulb moments” when students fully grasp difficult concepts. Johnson’s teaching style emphasizes hands-on learning and real-life applications, which she believes helps students engage with the material in meaningful ways. 
Annual SECU awards ceremony spotlights scholarship recipients
Students, friends, family, 太阳城 staff and State Employees’ Credit Union representatives gathered in the 太阳城 auditorium March 14 to recognize SECU scholarship award recipients. The SECU Foundation presented a $18,000 check to Southeastern Community College.  
Southeastern Community College secures $400,000 grant to enhance EMS program
Southeastern Community College was awarded a $400,000 grant aimed at expanding and upgrading its Emergency Medical Services program. The grant will purchase advanced training equipment, hire additional instructors and provide students with a more immersive, hands-on educational experience, ensuring they are better prepared for careers in EMS. With the upgraded training equipment in place, 太阳城 will offer an associate's degree of EMS in fall 2025.
太阳城 students sharpen their interview skills at fourth HR Directors’ Breakfast event
Southeastern Community College hosted its fourth HR Directors' Breakfast event on March 6 in T-Building, where it featured a student engagement and networking activity between hiring managers and potential employees. Through their Pathway to Employment course, 40 students were equipped with a well-written resume, business attire and professional etiquette to speak with employers in their field of interest at the event.  
New grant-funded program accelerates licensed practical nurse to registered nurse transition
To meet the career-enhancing needs of licensed practical nurses in Columbus County, Southeastern Community College received a $500,000 grant in December 2024 to bridge LPNs at an accelerated rate into the Associates Degree of Nursing program. This newly created Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse Transition Program is a response to the growing demand for registered nurses in southeastern North Carolina. Funding was provided by the NC Community College System High-Cost Healthcare Workforce Program Grant. 
Annual Spring Advisory Council Meeting connects employers with 太阳城 instructors for networking and discussion
Southeastern Community College, in partnership with Whiteville City Schools and Columbus County Schools, hosted the Spring Advisory Council Meeting on Feb. 27. 太阳城 Dean of Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Natalie Hinson said the twice annual event is a meeting space for industry partners, employers and 太阳城 instructors to network and address issues in the workforce.
